GREAT BOBO JUG BAND TAKES WAFFLE IRON AT MINNEAPOLIS BATTLE
DATELINE Minneapolis, MN: About
400 people came to hear fourteen bands battle it out Sunday, February
7th for the coveted traveling waffle iron at the Minneapolis Eighteenth
Annual Battle of the Jug Bands. The judges, Brad Murphy of
Minneapolis and Bebo White of Stanford, Calif. (of the Loose Licks
Jug Band), had a particularly difficult time coming up with a winner
based upon the quality bands that this years battle brought. But when
the dust cleared The Great Bobo Jug Band was announced the winners
of the Eighteenth Battle.
Members of the winning band
include Gaylan Michealsen, Judy Larson, Milton "Soupy" Schindler, Bill
Hinckley, Bob "Bobo" Stelnicki, Dave Ray, Cal Hand and Ralph Wittcoff.
There was a bit of drama at one
point when the trophy Traveling Waffle Iron disappeared from its red
velvet perch. Eventually the culprit, a member of the Sorrels Untied
Jug Band which shall remain nameless, was found out. The Larson-ness
still maintains her innocence but obeyed the sentence of steering clear
of the waffle iron for the rest of the day.
Tradition continued with an
abundance of food 'Minnesota potluck style' as attendees feasted on
pastas, salads, roasted turkey, desserts and dips. Once again
participants from Northern Minnesota brought an abundance of smoked fish
which is rapidl 9y becoming a tradition itself.
The complete roster of bands
include: The Cam Waters Jug Band (1998 winners), Tortilla Flats Jug
Band; Juke Savage Jug Band; The Amish Power Company Jug Band; James Dean
and the Jug Heads; The Band From Effiey Jug Band; The Great Bobo Jug
Band; Fat Chance Jug Band; The Snapshots; The Spider Dog Jug Band; The
Slop Bucket String Band; Landfill Harmonic Jug Band; The Newly Formed
Formerly Pull Tab Mountain Boys Jug Band; and the Sorrels Untied Jug
